Who or what is Emma the Bibliophile-Librarian?

IMG_8343

My name is Emma, the bibliophile-librarian. I am a graduate student studying for my Master of Information and Library Science, and I anticipate graduating in 2017. True to the librarian stereotype, I love to read. My favourite genres are YA, comics, and manga, and my favourite authors include:

  • Neil Gaiman
  • Cassandra Clare
  • Diana Wynne Jones
  • Courtney Summers
  • Julie Kagawa
  • Sarah J. Maas
  • Stephen King
  • Jeff Lemire
  • E. Lockhart
  • Kelley Armstrong

I also have favourite manga authors, although my manga access is more limited at the moment, because of the selection available at my current local library compared to the large collection at the library in my hometown. Some of my favourite mangakas include:

  • Fumi Yoshinaga (Ooku: The Inner Chambers)
  • Hinako Ashihara (Sand Chronicles, Piece)
  • Maki Enjoji (Happy Marriage)
  • Moto Hagio (The Heart of Thomas, A Drunken Dream and Other Stories)
  • Tomu Ohmi (Midnight Secretary, Spell of Desire)
  • Rumiko Takahashi (Ranma ½, InuYasha)
  • Ai Yazawa (Nana, Paradise Kiss)

I am attempting to read through some of my favourite authors, but I tend to fluctuate between wanting to read all the shiny new books, and wanting to read through these authors’ backlogs. I started this blog to track my thoughts about the books I read, but also to think about fun things I can do with all of the knowledge I have accumulated as an avid reader, and perhaps incorporate in my future career as a librarian. I am planning to post book reviews of my current reads and old favourites, as well as top 10 book lists, books on my radar, book covers that I love, and book recommendations. I love to store up quotes of passages that are beautifully written or personally meaningful to my life.

Finally, I always read from a feminist perspective, regardless of the genre and content.
